Apollo Agriculture has rewarded a farmer in Tongaren constituency with a motorcycle after she successfully recruited farmers on its platform to assist them get financial aid to finance their farming activities.
Jacky Maraga Natembeya who hails from Wabukhonyi village in the northern part of Bungoma County received the machine which was delivered by the micro-finance entity in an event held at her homestead.
“I am glad that my efforts to recruit many farmers on the platform have borne results. This motorcycle will assist me in the transportation of my farm produce to nearby markets,” said Mrs. Natembeya.
Apollo Agriculture’s regional marketing manager James Kanini said the firm is keen on sensitizing its farmers on curbing the effects of climate change through a crop insurance platform.
We are aware that the African Armyworm has affected several farmers and we have thus captured their interest through provision of pesticides and insurance against crop failure,” said Mr. Kanini.
Apollo Agriculture assists small holder farmers having between 0.5- 3 Acres to enjoy affordable credit to finance their farming where farmers are required to pay 10% of the deposit with the balance being paid gradually basis till the end of the season.
The goal of the initiative is to ensure that every farmer has an opportunity to farm profitably by having access to the right farm inputs in the right quantity and at the right time.
“There are more than 500 million small-scale farmers globally, and average farm yields per acre across Africa are only 10-20% of those in North America. We seek to change that by partnering with farmers,” he said.
